Billund builds Bergen bond with Wideroe

Flown on the carrier’s fleet of 78-seat Q400s, the arrival of Wideroe in the Norwegian market at Billund gives the airline an immediate 17% share of weekly seats across all routes to Norway.

Billund Airport has announced a significant boost in the gateway’s capacity to Bergen, with the arrival of new airline partner Wideroe. The Norwegian regional carrier will launch a three times weekly service from West Denmark to Norway’s second-busiest airport on 25 June, meaning that Billund will see a 650% increase in its weekly capacity to Bergen next summer.

Flown on the carrier’s fleet of 78-seat Q400s, the arrival of Wideroe in the Norwegian market at Billund gives the airline an immediate 17% share of weekly seats across all routes to Norway. Joining the airport’s existing links to Bergen and Oslo Gardermoen, the start of Wideroe’s new flights will see Billund offer close to 40 flights, more than 2,500 one-way seats, to Norway each week in S18.

“Wideroe’s link to Bergen is fantastic news for the 380,000 Norwegian tourists visiting us every year and we’re thrilled to welcome our new partner,” enthuses Kjeld Zacho Jorgensen, CEO, Billund Airport. “The announcement is just as great for the many Danes travelling to Norway to experience the country’s stunning fjords, with Wideroe’s extensive domestic network our customers will have the whole of Norway even more accessible to them,” added Jorgensen.

Welcoming a record number of passengers so far this year, Billund is on course to reach 3.4 million passengers by year-end – a healthy 9% growth which is firmly ahead of the European average. As the primary gateway to the West Danish region, 99% of Billund’s passengers are international, making the airport by far the most international in Scandinavia.
