US and Australian investors have expressed interest in plans for a marine technology park in Greece.

The park, to be located in the southern Athens suburb of Voula, is part of the Greek government`s Olympic tourism package.

Greek Tourist Enterprises (ETA<.>), a private firm operating under the aegis of the development ministry, has put together a business plan and aims to have the project completed within two years of the start of construction. It is expected to cost 15 billion drachmas and begin operating by 2004, when Athens hosts the Olympics.

Greek firm Selonda, together with a US company, has also registered interest in the project.

The establishment of the park should contribute to Greece`s efforts to upgrade its tourism industry, extend the tourist season and develop educational travel while also boost weekend travel to Attica.
