Rimini, shots of a unique city

The Rimini Riviera Convention Bureau has invited 10 foreign buyers and involved them in a nice photo contest focused on capturing the essence of that part of Italy, its art and its venues. Enthusiastic were the comments on behalf of the guests, who discovered a destination which is growing and is strengthening its offer for conferences and business tourism.

The Rimini Convention Bureau (CBRR) has invited 10 foreign buyers to participate to a fam trip to explore the town which is located on the northeastern side of Italy, along the Adriatic coast. The aim was to visit its venues for conferences and conventions and to experience the artistic and cultural heritage of the town and its surroundings.

Rimini has become one of the top destinations for the European Meeting industry and will soon boast the new Palacongressi di Rimini, one of the biggest, most versatile multifunctional conference centres in Europe, with state-of-the art technologies, an extreme flexibility of use, and an attentive eye towards the environment.

The group of professionals had the chance to visit this new venue as well as acknowledge the quality and quantity of the hotel offer of the province, consisting of thousands of rooms in 4 and 5 stars along with those in lower category structures, ranking Rimini first in Europe in terms of hotel rooms per square kilometre.

The buyers had the opportunity to realize that the town, ruled by the Malatesta family from the 13th to the 16th century, and home of the popular film director Federico Fellini, is also an important destinations in terms of art, culture, handicraft and gourmet traditions. The Roman bridge made by emperor Tiberius and the Augustus Arch both constructed 2,000 years ago, the archaeological site of the “House of the Surgeon” (opened in 2007), the Malatesta Temple, the rich hystorical centre and the heritage of many centuries, constitute the soul of the Rimini of today, a multifaceted destination, evermore appreciated by the main players of the international Meeting Industry.

And this appreciation has been confirmed by the participants of the fam trip who said to have brought back home the welcoming spirit of Rimini, made of entrepreneurship, professionalism and friendship.
“It’s exactly what I was looking for, for the events I want to organize” Michael Sloyan, an operator of Birmingham, founder of the World Business Fair and Conference, said while visiting the new conference centre.

“One of the positive aspects of Rimini is that hotels and convention centre are very close to each other, which is very rare even in the most popular European capitals” added Clifton McLeod, a London-based organizer of musical events.

Perhaps the feelings of all the participants of the fam trip are contained in the comment reported by Eve Arnold, Chief Administrative Officer of the International League of Dermatological Societies: ”This has been one of the best educational tours I have ever attended: for the organisation, for the heritage of the locations I have visited and for the opportunity to organise big conferences or small meetings. A destination, Rimini and its surroundings, which has entered directly in our hearts. This is the feeling I would like to convey to my clients”.

Fun Photo
The buyers invited by the Convention Bureau have been involved in a photo contest, to capture the essence of Rimini and its surroundings: each participant received a digital camera and was stimulated by the staff of CBRR and advised by a CBRR consultant, both a tour leader and a skilled photographer, to take pictures during the educational. The occasions were endless indeed; from the Tiberius Bridge, the Arch of Augustus, the hystorical centre and the Malatesta Temple, to the new convention centre, the Marine Park “Oltremare” in the nearby town of Riccione – where the visit to the dolphinarium was further enhanced by the surprise of the presence of a small dolphin born the week before – and the medieval charm of the inland villages of Santarcangelo di Romagna and San Leo. Particularly San Leo is famous for its ancient fortress, where the Count of Cagliostro was imprisoned in the last years of the18th century, and for the old part of the village, which has been constantly restored throughout the decades and is today one of the most beautiful and well preserved in Italy.

Right in San Leo – after the conference for the introduction of an important international photo exhibit aimed at gathering funds for the research on cystic fibrosis – the best photo made by the buyers was awarded by the participants themselves, who chose the image which best represents Rimini.
Saro Di Bartolo, advisor at CBRR and professional photographer, worked as a supervisor of the contest giving each “competitor” useful advices.

Global competition
Thanks to the new convention centre, to the wide and diversified hotel offer, to the rich and important cultural heritage, and to a qualified subject like the Rimini Convention Bureau, Rimini is the perfect location for association, medical scientific, and corporate events, and is a qualified competitor on the main European destinations scenario in terms of offer, professionality and costs.
The buyers who have been hosted at the fam trip have also had a positive feedback regarding accessibility, learning how easy is the access to Rimini: besides the train connections and the highway network, the local city airport has opened new year-round connections to the most important European capital cities, while keeping the 3 daily flights to and from Rome Fiumicino airport, managed in cooperation with Alitalia and in connection with the services that the Italian carrier operates worldwide. At one hour away north and south from Rimini there are respectively the Bologna airport with the most important scheduled European connections, as well as some extra-European ones, and the Ancona airport.
