An 86-meter long submarine is currently under construction, designed to cruise the bottom of the seas. The vessel, owned and operated by US Submarine Company, is to offer two night sailing, starting by the end of 2002.

With accommodations for 72 passengers, the vessel is being built in luxurius style comparable to the Orient Express, according to Bruce Jones, president of the company.

Among special features planned are two and a half meter portholes, lighting to illuminate the sea, and provision for passengers to feed fish. The sub can reach depths of 350 meters.

Operation planned is for one year out of a different port in each major ocean and sea of the world, including the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South Pacific, and Indian.

At present cost for this deep sea venture is set at $2,000 per person a day.
