Honduras welcomes business and “bleisure” travelers to Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula

San Pedro Sula,Honduras

Travelers extending a business trip to Honduras will have plenty of options to unplug, relax or recharge at Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula.

TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS – Business travelers are seeking the best experiences in urban destinations, from nightlife to high-end cuisine, in addition to easy day trip options departing and returning from urban hubs. Honduras, with its vibrant capital Tegucigalpa and thriving commercial center San Pedro Sula, both surrounded by astounding natural scenery, satisfies all the requirements travelers look for when extending their stays to celebrate and relax before or after business trips.

“Honduras is on a fast track to becoming one of Central America’s most important business travel destinations,” said Honduras Institute of Tourism’s Minister-Director Emilio Silvestri. “Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula are our leading business travel destinations and provide an array of restaurants, historical sites, museums and natural sanctuaries that invite travelers to stay for longer and enjoy some down time. Our country’s varied landscapes offer eco-tours and adventurous escapes, all while giving insight into our colonial heritage and Mayan background.”

For travelers who will find themselves in either of these international hubs soon, below are some options to maximize their time in the destination:

  • Travelers can spend the weekend celebrating in style in Tegucigalpa by sampling the varied restaurants. Choose an American style steakhouse like Factory Steak & Lobster, or the elegant La Cumbre, set on a hilltop with stunning views of the city. The Fish Bistro’s menu celebrates the ocean’s bounty and comes with one of the best wine lists in the capital. San Pedro Sula offers a similarly striking culinary scene, from the steakhouse El Portal de las Carnes where beef reigns supreme, to La Cite, known for its delicious Mediterranean cuisine.
  • Valle de Angeles is only 30 minutes from downtown Tegucigalpa and several tour companies coordinate short visits incorporating leisurely strolls around the colonial town, picturesque centers like Plaza el Eden and Plaza entre Barcas, and through traditional Honduran candy shops and crafts markets, making it ideal when adding extra time to a business trip to the capital. The town’s local coffee shops serve Honduran delicacies and the beans they use are cultivated in nearby fields for a true farm-to-table experience close to the big city.
  • Santa Lucia is another nearby colonial village, less than seven miles from the capital, that makes for an easy getaway for a day trip or a long weekend. More than half of the town is a protected reserve, La Tigra National Park, the first national park in Honduras. The hilly geography surrounding the colonial town, one of the oldest established by the Spanish, offers a refreshing climate, and a cool respite from the capital. Active travelers will love its colorful sunsets and visitors should also make it a point to stop by La Terteria Surcagua, a quaint but popular tea house with eclectic decor.
  • Some of the best coffee in the world is grown in the cool mountains of Honduras, and one ideal getaway when on a business trip is to take the Touristic Coffee Route, which allows visitors to explore coffee farms and make a complete tour of the process from the bean to the final cup. Coffee beans grown by Honduras’ Jose Abelardo Diaz Enamorado were designated as the “Best of the Best” in the 2017 Ernesto Illy International Coffee Awards. There are six regions to experience the Honduras Coffee Route: Copan, Opalaca, Montecillos, Comayagua, El Paraiso and Agalta.
  • Those with a little more time can explore Copan, a charming town in Honduras’ western region boasting neoclassical architecture and narrow cobblestone streets. It is home to the famous Mayan archeological site of the same name. Within this verdant tropical setting, visitors can choose luxury hotels within easy reach of the ruins, and explore jungle adventures, or hike amid the ancient rainforests, still strewn with many underexplored sites.
  • Nature lovers are exploring Honduras for its vast Birdwatching opportunities. Within Central America, Honduras features the most protected land with 91 areas, and is home to more than 770 species of birds. The varied ecosystems allow visitors to see many species including the Ocellated Quail, Keel-billed Motmot, Lovely Cotinga, Agami Heron and the Honduran Emerald, all easily reached from the business centers of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.

Travelers extending a business trip to Honduras will have plenty of options to unplug, relax or recharge at Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula. With fabulous restaurants, nightlife and cultural activities, along with natural beauty and colonial and Mayan history, Honduras is an ideal business and leisure vacation spot.
