London City Airport is the easiest London airport to reach by train

The DLR achieved its highest scores for punctuality and performance in its 26-year history in January 2014. The railway ran 99.67 per cent of its trains on time during the period 5 January to 1 February and operated 99.77 per cent of its scheduled services.

According to a survey by Which?, London City Airport is the easiest London airport to reach by train. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) scored 81 per cent in a customer survey, based on overall satisfaction and the likelihood of recommending to a friend. The DLR connects London City Airport directly to Bank station in 22 minutes, Canary Wharf via the Jubilee Line in 12 minutes and Westminster in 23 minutes.

The Heathrow Express lagged behind with a score of 70 per cent, while the London Underground connection to Heathrow scored 67 per cent. The Gatwick Express scored just 60 per cent.

Declan Collier, CEO of London City Airport said: “London City Airport is the only airport actually in London and that is why our public transport connections are so much more convenient. A pleasant journey on the DLR to London Zone 3 brings passengers straight into the terminal building. Around 55 per cent of our passengers choose to travel to and from the airport using the DLR, and once they’re here they can check in, move through security and reach their departure gate in around 20 minutes. On arrival, from disembarking the aircraft to reaching your onward train takes just 10 minutes. LCY is also the most punctual airport in the UK, with the most flights on-time and the shortest average delay. All of these factors make for a quick and efficient journey and reinforce why the airport is the first choice of business travellers.”

Those surveyed highlighted the frequency of the DLR as well as the favourable prices as reasons for scoring the service so highly.
