According to Peru this Week, the head of the National Chamber of Commerce has announced that Peru seeks to increase tourist visits to 6 million by 2016.
PERU – Peru is aiming to attract 6 million tourists by 2016, according to Carlos Canales, head of the National Chamber of Commerce.
This year, he said, Peru saw 2.9 million tourists, who produced $3.3 billion in revenue for the country’s tourism industry. Canales said that despite recent tourism growth, this figure is still below regional tourism trends.
“We should redirect advertising policies to capture the most attractive markets and start connecting with the market segments which are still not coming to Peru,” Canales was quoted as saying by El Comercio.
If the country were to reach its 2016 goal, it would see tourism revenue increase to $7.5 billion, the daily said.
Canales said promotional efforts should be concentrated in markets such as Russia, and China, as well as Scandinavian and Arab countries.
