TLC Engineering for Architecture's aviation business is taking off With Tampa International Airport projects

TLC's roles on both projects include enhancing the indoor environment of the airport, providing passengers with comfortable and safe travel experiences, along with seamless movement through secured areas, complying with Customs and Border Patrol, Transportation Security Administration and other strict requirements.

TAMPA, FLA. – TLC Engineering for Architecture’s Tampa office is engineering multiple projects that are part of a major expansion underway at Tampa International Airport, building on the firm’s expertise in the aviation market and years of working at Tampa International.

TLC is providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, along with security, voice-data and audio-visual designs for a new consolidated car rental facility and automated people mover, which will take travelers from the rental car facility to the main terminal. The company is also working on the redevelopment of the main terminal and concessions areas.

TLC’s roles on both projects include enhancing the indoor environment of the airport, providing passengers with comfortable and safe travel experiences, along with seamless movement through secured areas, complying with Customs and Border Patrol, Transportation Security Administration and other strict requirements. TLC is supporting Skanska and HOK on the terminal renovation, and Austin Commercial and Gresham, Smith and Partners on the rental car facility and people mover. Both projects have large design and construction teams with significant Minority and Women Business Enterprises goals.

The company’s most recent projects continue TLC’s role in designing dynamic signage, interactive messaging boards and other systems that provide passengers with up-to-date information on flights, luggage and navigation around the airport. All of these systems incorporate infrastructure to allow for the implementation of future technologies.

In the past 25 years, TLC has engineered numerous projects at Tampa International: designing internal systems for Airsides A, E and C; modifications and upgrades to Airside A; a 50,000-square-foot expansion of Airside F; and previous renovations to the main terminal.

TLC is also engineering projects at Orlando International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, along with numerous smaller airports.

Among the team working on the Tampa projects is Dominic Cacolici, PE, a senior mechanical engineer who joined TLC three years ago, bringing a decade of experience in system critical facilities and building on his experience in aviation as a private pilot; Santiago Beron, RCDD, CTS, DMCD, with experience designing the unique security and communications systems required by various agencies responsible for the administration of airports and national security; and Kevin Keiter, PE, CxA, LEED AP BD+C, a senior mechanical engineer with experience at numerous airports who is remaining with the team as he continues his life’s work delivering infrastructure projects to underserved countries.

TLC, celebrating its 60th anniversary, has built a long history of successful work in aviation, successfully completing work for airports across the nation.
