Travellers are undecided on whether they will be traveling for the holidays says Qtrip survey

The travelers who do plan to visit friends and family (about a third of respondents) will find airfares about 25% lower than last year on average.

Travel booking platform Qtrip recently conducted a survey regarding consumer intent for traveling during the holidays this year.

Here are some of the findings:

  • 40% of respondents are undecided on whether they will be traveling for the holidays
  • 41% are concerned over full flights during the holiday season
  • 56% are flying as their method of transportation during the holidays

Jeff Klee, CEO of Qtrip, comments: “What we heard from our 2,300 respondents is that they're itching to travel again, but a big chunk of them are not quite ready to pull the trigger. They're taking a wait and see attitude about the holidays, waiting for news that will make them a little more comfortable.

It’s still a little bit early to be making sweeping generalizations in such a unique year, but it looks like the travelers who do plan to visit friends and family (about a third of respondents) will find airfares about 25% lower than last year on average.

According to our survey, more travelers are planning to travel for Christmas and New Year’s (60%) than Thanksgiving (around 43%), which is a little different than the usual holiday patterns. But if we avoid a bad second virus wave, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those people who aren’t quite comfortable committing to a trip right now, end up changing their mind at the last minute.

One of the notable data points is that most travelers are planning to stay with friends or family (52.9%). That’s not surprising. I think people are starving for those face to face interactions that we’ve all had to avoid for so long. People can’t wait to spend time again with those who mean most in their lives.”
