Sustainable Travel International announces new online training course for tourism professionals

Sustainable Tourism Professionals Certificate developed by USAID and George Washington University.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sustainable Travel International has announced the launch of a cutting-edge education offering, featuring online courses for tourism professionals.

The Sustainable Tourism Professionals Certificate helps participants develop the skills and knowledge necessary to address sustainability challenges, facilitate professional growth, and maximize career opportunities. Successful completion of the program results in an official certificate.

Courses are presented in a self-paced, online format, and are suitable for a wide range of participants, from entry- to executive-level. The content, developed by the International Institute of Tourism Studies at George Washington University, with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), encompasses the most up-to-date offering in the travel and tourism industry focused on sustainable tourism. Content will be updated regularly, ensuring participants have access to the latest industry trends and best practices.

“As the travel and tourism industry has evolved, corporate responsibility and destination-level sustainable tourism strategies have become more commonplace,” said Sustainable Travel International’s Founder and CEO, Brian T. Mullis. “As a result, there is a growing need for professional development opportunities that enhance existing knowledge and skills at a local level. Our program ensures that industry professionals are prepared for the constantly evolving challenges and opportunities they face every day.”

The Sustainable Tourism Professionals Certificate costs just $450 per person. Participants will complete one core course and three 8-12 hour online courses, each ending with a final exam.  Successful applicants for the certificate must also have worked in sustainable tourism for a minimum of two years, and must actively engage in sustainable tourism practices.

Groups of 20 or more individuals may receive discounts for the program, making this a perfect offering for businesses or destinations searching for professional development opportunities for their workforce. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has already enrolled 75 Environmental Officers in the program, demonstrating the company’s deep commitment to sustainable tourism and human resource development.

“With interest and demand for sustainable tourism on the rise, an educational offering of this nature is timely,” said Dr. Don Hawkins, Eisenhower Professor of Tourism Policy at the George Washington University School of Business. “Sustainable Travel International is addressing this growing need by leveraging some of the most relevant, cutting-edge educational content available in the marketplace, and making its Sustainable Tourism Professionals Certificate accessible and affordable.”

Course topics include project management, investment & finance, workforce development, energy and conservation.
