World Land Trust launches flight emissions carbon calcculator in response to cliamate change

The Flight Emissions Carbon Offset Calculator has been developed using a set of functions and procedures that allow the creation of applications, known as Application Programming Interface (API). This API communicates remotely with airport API thus ensuring that airport data used within the application is both relevant and up to date.

World Land Trust (WLT), the conservation charity, is enhancing its Carbon Balanced programme with the launch of the new Flight Emissions Carbon Offset Calculator, which enables individuals to calculate and offset their flights’ carbon dioxide emissions quickly and easily.

It has been well documented that air travel is responsible for 6% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, with carbon dioxide emissions from air travel accounting for approximately 34 million tonnes per year in 2012. The figure is equivalent to the carbon dioxide emissions generated by 7.7 million homes. World Land Trust’s Flight Emissions Carbon Offset Calculator allows individuals to take a step towards monitoring and reducing their carbon footprint by calculating the carbon dioxide emissions linked to their air travel.

World Land Trust gives individuals the opportunity to offset all or part of their flight’s carbon emissions through WLT’s Carbon Balanced  conservation projects. Each offset is individually assigned to a specific project carefully designed to maximise biodiversity benefits and the sequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide. The programme enables individuals and companies to offset their CO2 emissions while contributing to the conservation of some of the world’s most threatened forests and biodiversity.

Chris Dixon, Managing Director of the Little Red Bridge Limited and Adela Pickles the funder of the Flight Emissions Carbon Offset Calculator, said, “We have been very happy to fund the development of the World Land Trust Carbon Calculator, as we think that many people these days want to be able to offset their flight emissions in a quick and easy way, on their phone, tablet or laptop”.
