Barel Travel: New programmes and collaborations with Greece

Since 2015, Barel Travel has acted as exclusive representative of the Katerina and Venus Passenger Ferries vessels, which set off from Kusadasi and sail to Samos and Patmos.

Following its successful debut at the tourism exhibition in Izmir last December, Barel Travel, which is based in Kusadasi, made a dynamic appearance at the EMITT exhibition in Istanbul, promoting its programmes, including itineraries and full and half day visits to Greek islands, namely Samos, Patmos and Ikaria, as well as Mykonos and other Aegean islands via local ferry lines.

Since 2015, Barel Travel has acted as exclusive representative of the Katerina and Venus Passenger Ferries vessels, which set off from Kusadasi and sail to Samos and Patmos. The Kusadasi-Samos-Ikaria route will be introduced in the summer of 2016. Moreover, full day excursions from Kusadasi to Samos have been scheduled on certain days each week. Departures are guaranteed between 1 May and 31 October, and the vessels are available for charter during the rest of the year, and mid- season upon request. Turkish travellers are able to visit Greece with a simple gate visa that is supplied by Barel Travel at the port of Kusadasi.

The speedboat Katerina was built in the summer of 2015 in Greece and makes the crossing from Kusadasi to Samos in just 45 minutes. This allows for a full day excursion to the island of Samos for those not wishing to stay overnight. Daily departures also serve visitors opting to stay a few nights in Samos and the nearby islands on the route of the Katerina.

“The initial aim of our agency is to increase the number of Turkish passengers from the greater surrounding area of Izmir and Aydin to Samos, Patmos and Ikaria. This region is an attractive destination for high-income Turkish citizens, many of whom own summer homes in the area. We also intend to expand our services by adding more vessels travelling to destinations in the central and eastern Aegean,” says Mr Stratos Kararisteidis, Cooperative Advisor of Barel Travel.

The efforts of Barel Travel take on significant importance in 2016 as bookings for all islands off the Asian coast are low. The reinforcement of the season by the Turkish market, which is experiencing similar conditions due to the influx of refugees to the islands, is essential. Furthermore, Barel Travel offers comprehensive packages to the Greek islands based on the needs of each traveller, as well as tours combining visits to Greece and Turkey for international tourists.
