Extended Stay America celebrates 500th renovated property

National hotel chain has completed 80 percent of portfolio.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Extended Stay America has announced the completion of its 500th renovated hotel – the brand's largest hotel improvement initiative in its history. The company celebrated this milestone with a special event at the 500th renovated property in Waukesha, Wisconsin – right outside of Milwaukee. The renovation project, which began in 2012 is nearing completion, with 80 percent of the portfolio refreshed and $500 million invested to-date.

"Our renovation initiative has been a huge success.  The hotels look great, our associates are proud and our guests get a fresh, clean and comfortable stay. Completing the renovation of 500 hotels has been one of the biggest things we've ever done and it is also one of the biggest in the hotel industry. As a leader in the extended stay segment we've now renovated more hotels than other hotel brands have in their entire portfolio," said CMO Tom Seddon. "As we near completion we're exceeding our own expectations with guest satisfaction scores continuing to climb."

Renovating responsibly has been integral to the company's approach in executing a brand-wide refresh of its 629 extended-stay hotels across the U.S. and Canada. To ensure this initiative had as little impact to the environment as possible, the company embarked on an extensive recycling and donation program over the past few years, that has diverted an estimated 27 million cubic feet of material from landfills to date. This volume is equivalent to 5.3 Titanic ships full of material.

Based on guest research and industry trends, renovated properties focus on providing business and leisure travelers with a comfortable and convenient stay, from fresh flooring and premium paint to fully redesigned lobbies and contemporary artwork. Guest rooms include elevated soft goods such as new sofas, upgraded bedding, plush pillows and fresh linens, along with improved lighting and updated bathroom amenities, like framed mirrors and curved rods to increase shower space. Additionally, renovated rooms incorporate a modern recliner and ergonomically designed desk chair for travelers to enjoy the flat screen TVs, with complimentary premium cable channels and free Wi-Fi available in every guest room.

Designed with convenience in mind, renovated properties have fully equipped kitchens in every guest room with a full size refrigerator, stovetop, cooking utensils, dishes, silverware and the "Away From Home Cooking" cookbook with travel-friendly recipes and supermarket shortcuts from Food Network Star Sunny Anderson. Beyond guest rooms, redesigned common areas provide a place for travelers to relax together offering free Wi-Fi and daily Grab and Go breakfast with quick and wholesome choices to start the day.

In addition to all the physical and aesthetic improvements guests can also take advantage of a new Extended Perks instant rewards program. Guests can save on future hotel stays as well as save instantly on over 160,000 national and local brands via the web or mobile app.
