In addition, the participants will, during the five days of the Congress, have the opportunity of discovering the beauties of the Costa del Sol from an amiable perspective thanks to the fact that the local Club, Malaga-Costa del Sol has been charged with the organisation of this event. Ana Maria Garcia, President of Skal International Malaga-Costa del Sol states that “during the five days of the Congress we have prepared diverse activities which we are sure the participants will enjoy in addition to satisfying their work expectations during the various professional days. All this, I am sure, will be an invitation for them to return to our beloved Costa del Sol”.

The Costa del Sol has already hosted Skal International world congress in 1968 and 1975. In additional the international headquarters of the Association are in Torremolinos. Forty years on Skalleagues from all corners of the world will meet in Malaga in representation of the 16,500 members in more than 390 cities and 85 countries.

Skal positions itself as a reference on many controversial points on tourism, adopting a clear and firm position. Skal International is an Affiliate Member of the World Tourism Organization whose mission is to promote the development of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. It supports the respect of human rights in the tourism industry, the increase of fair commerce, including the increase in airline taxes which negatively affects tourism in developing countries.

Former President of Skal International, Mok Singh, stated “Tourism is one of the few sectors which continue to increase and this increase brings the responsibility of ensuring that persons involved understand and actively support basic human rights. We cannot remain unmoved and watch our clients travel and stay in exclusive resorts and regions where the inhabitants are oppressed by their governments, elemental human rights are not respected and where they do not participate in the working of the tourism sector nor do they know where the profits are used”.

Amongst its own contributions are the Sustainable Tourism Awards with the objective of making known the best ecotourism practices worldwide. Skal is governed by the Code of Ethics in Tourism with which it supports the Code of Conduct for the protection of children from sexual exploitation in tourism.

It also has Young Skal members which are training for or already working in the various sectors of the tourism industry.

Skal members have direct contact with the leaders of the travel and tourism industry, persons with influence and they make up an organisation respected worldwide whose voice represents the trust of the sector and supports the Skal Vision Statement of being “A Trusted Voice in Travel & Tourism”.
