Hotel H1898 marks a decade of colonial charm and exclusive service in the heart of Barcelona

The historic establishment celebrates 10 years of steady improvement, constantly revitalizing its unique spaces.

BARCELONA – Hotel H1898 of Barcelona, a member of the NN Hotels group, is celebrating its tenth anniversary by bringing new features and modern updates to its unique spaces. Just ten years after its official opening, the hotel is more lively than ever, thanks to steady improvement, by which it has constantly incorporated new products and services, to stay current with the times without sacrificing its unique and irreplaceable essence.

On the occasion of this special anniversary, the establishment has also taken it upon itself to renovate La Isabela, a terrace featuring exceptional panoramic views over the city skyline. At the same time, the hotel is redecorating its various ballrooms and conference spaces, each equipped with the right personality and equipment to accommodate a business function or family celebration. And soon, the lobby bar will also undergo renovation, granting direct access from Pintor Fortuny Street, and making the sophisticated and relaxing bar even more open to the city at large.

Since it first opened 10 years ago, H1898 has hosted over 800,000 guests from 63 different countries. Throughout this period, it’s made (and remade) 2,800,000 beds; and its staff has greeted lodgers with about just as many genuine “good mornings.”

El H1898 is impressive not only because of its location, right in the heart of Barcelona, but also for its unique style, meticulous decor, and attentive personalized services, altogether  making guests feel well taken care of, and right at home.

The hotel opened in 2005 following two years of comprehensive renovation and reconstruction to the building that once served as the headquarters of the Philippines Tobacco Company. The building’s exterior boasts a prototypical Neoclassical style, while its interiors offer a fresh reinterpretation of Colonial style, with high ceilings, chiaroscuro effects, and warm lighting. In this sense, H1898 effortlessly blends its strong historical character with contemporary 21st century features. Its 169 rooms, spa, colonial ballrooms, library, and spectacular lobby, each exudes the history and style that every detail of the hotel pays homage to.

In its 10 years, H1898 has also received numerous prestigious distinctions, among them the 2014 Fodor’s Award, naming the establishment among the world’s best 100 hotels; the 2014 Conde Nast Traveler Gold List, where it came in 6th among all the hotels across Spain; the 2014 Expedia Insider’s Select award; and most recently, a 2015 Traveler’s Choice award, where it was recognized by TripAdvisor as one of Spain’s top 25 hotels. Significantly, most of these awards are conferred on the basis of guest comments and ratings, making them all the more meaningful.
