Mamilla Hotel’s new February and March 2023 experiential program includes:

Workshop on Israeli Wine Tasting

From the Negev Desert in the south, the mountainous Galilee in the north to the fertile Judean Mountains just outside of Jerusalem and the Mediterranean coastal plain in the west, Israel’s burgeoning wine landscape has become a major drawing point for locals and internationals. Mamilla Hotel’s wine bar serves over 140 of Israel’s most prestigious and finest wines, which together, tell the story of Israeli agricultural and wine-making history. As discovered during archeological excavations across the country, the biblical homeland gave birth to ancient wine more than 4,000 years ago.

Guided by the hotel’s in-house sommelier, guests will have the ability to learn about and sample the unique qualities of Israeli wine in a new and in-depth experience, including the tasting of three types of selected wines – one white and two red – accompanied by salty and mineral water, with a cheese platter, available upon request. The wine tasting workshop is available on February 27th between 5pm and 6:30pm.

Locavore Mixology Workshop

Mamilla Hotel’s in-house mixologist, Kfir Bacher, is master creator of mixing and distilling drinks, as well as crafting cocktails that incorporate traditional Israeli flavours and flaire. Guests will learn how to create balanced cocktails using local fruits, herbs and spirit labels. Under Kfir’s expert guidance, guests will mix fresh and dried fruits from the seven species – figs, dates, vine, pomegranate, olives, wheat and barley creating their very own original craft cocktails that embody time and place. The mixology workshop will be available on February 23rd, March 2nd, March 9th and March 16th between 5pm – 6:30pm.

Workshop on Olive Oil Tasting

Over the last decade, Israeli olive oil has been elevated and exposed as a premier good that is becoming a gourmet kitchen staple. During this experiential workshop, guests will activate their senses and experience an enlightening crash-course of Israeli olive oil, based upon smell, taste and color. The workshop will be held in the hotel’s Mirror Bar by Yael Ofer, a culinary and tourism reporter, a professional olive oil connoisseur and judge on the Israeli Olive Branch panel and other nation-wide competitions. The Olive Oil Tasting Workshop will be available on February 16th and 23rd between 4:30pm – 7:00pm.

Workshop on medicinal plants and natural spa treatments at Mamilla’s Akasha Spa

Mamilla Hotel’s Akasha Spa acts as a serene oasis in the Holy City, incorporating plants and natural materials that have been used medicinally in the Holy Land for thousands of years. In ancient times, the knowledge of medicinal herbs, oils and treatments was kept by virtuous individuals and passed down through tradition from generation to generation.

Guests will be able to learn about ancient wellness customs that combine traditional medicine with modern scientific research. The Akasha Spa “Medicinal Plants Workshop” will educate and inform partakers on how to strengthen the body’s natural defense systems, using locavore plants from across the Levant.

The preparation of herbal remedies for home use – including compresses, decoctions, alcoholic extracts and medicinal oils – will be taught to workshop participants. Guests will learn about a variety of medicinal plants, native to Israel, inclusive of their most efficient and proper usage. For guests interested in post-workshop spa treatments, Akasha Spa will offer a variety of treatments incorporating the natural oils discussed during the workshop, including hammam treatments, water treatment in the Watsu pool, and a vast selection of quality and pampering massages and experiences. The workshop will take place on February 21 between 5pm – 8pm.
