United airline partners with CarTrawler, European rental car leader

The partnership will help expand the airline’s loyalty capabilities for customers and drive new streams of ancillary revenue through car rental services.

CarTrawler, leading provider of car rental and mobility solutions to the global travel industry  announce a partnership with a leader in the North American airline industry.

The partnership will help expand the airline’s loyalty capabilities for customers and drive new streams of ancillary revenue through car rental services. Ancillary revenue is crucial for the travel industry as it continues its pandemic recovery – a recent CarTrawler report found that ancillary revenue was the only financial success for airlines in 2020, and projects airline ancillary revenue will increase to $65.8 billion worldwide in 2021.

“CarTrawler’s purpose is to drive successful partnerships and long-term revenue growth for our partners. Ancillaries really showed their value during the pandemic and travel brands will look to new opportunities to make the most of ancillary revenue – particularly those that can be bought independently, such as car rental, mobility and using loyalty programme miles.,” said Cormac Barry, CEO of CarTrawler. “This partnership with United Airlines demonstrates our ability to help airlines expand their loyalty capabilities and drive new streams of ancillary revenue. We’re looking forward to collaborating with United to help them build even more brand loyalty by providing passengers with the most relevant car rental choices for their needs.”

“United has always embraced innovation and close collaboration with strategic partners where the intended objective is to deliver a differentiated and elevated travel experience for our passengers,” said Shane Smith, Managing Director of Product and Partnerships at United. “CarTrawler is setting a new standard in B2B travel platforms. We’re looking forward to harnessing those enhanced digital capabilities across our MileagePlus program and we believe this partnership will not only strengthen the value proposition for our existing loyalty members, but it will also serve as another compelling reason for why all airline travelers should join MileagePlus.”
