2 in 5 Britons are going on long distance trips this summer despite travel disruptions

7 in 10 (71%) British travellers plan, organise and research before arriving at their destination, which is more than any other country.

LONDON – A new report from Klarna, a leading global retail bank, payments and shopping service, reveals what British consumers are up to this summer and their travel plans for the coming months.

The report finds that more than 3 in 5 Britons (65%) are looking to travel over the summer, despite the ongoing travel disruptions. More than 2 in 5 (42%) British travellers are planning a long distance trip to another continent, 38% are planning to stay in the UK, and only 7% are planning a staycation at home. Regardless of the destination, most are looking forward to travelling for recharging and relaxing (54%), escaping the everyday routine (42%), and visiting family and friends (32%).

As travel chaos is expected to continue over the summer, it’s perhaps not surprising that Britons prefer to plan their trips in advance, leaving little space for spontaneity. 7 in 10 (71%) British travellers plan, organise and research before arriving at their destination, which is more than any other country. Britons prepare for their vacations by planning activities in advance (37%), browsing Google maps (37%), and making a list of places to visit (36%). Britons also beat their international peers in terms of packing their suitcases the earliest, on average 3-6 days ahead of travel.

The report also shows that this summer British consumers are more interested in outdoor activities, with 1 in 2 (53%) planning to spend time outdoors, especially hiking (36%), cycling (32%) and camping (22%). This comes as 43% of British consumers say they want to prioritise their mental and physical wellbeing.
