The last flight of Olympic Airways to Belgrade was on the 23th of March 1999, just a few hours before the beginning of the military operations. During the war period Olympic operated its office in Belgrade in order to serve the people with its flights from Budapest and Skopje.
After the reopening of Belgrade airport and the lifting of the airspace blockage for the international flights, which was decided by the council of EU ministers of Foreign Affairs, the management of Olympic and its executives, acted decisively in order to overcome the bureaucracy, and other procedures so, that will Olympic to be the first airline of the EU to connect Belgrade with the rest of the world.
Olympic will fly three times a week to Belgrade, every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Mr. Zygogiannis, chairman of OA said `It is a symbolic action which emphasizes the historic and strong relations that exist between the two peoples. On the occasion of the air reconnection of Yugoslavia with the rest of the world, Olympic wishes to express its sympathy to the Yugoslavian people and send a message that war does not solve any problems but brings catastrophe to the human lives and the environment.`
CEO of OA Mr. Rod Lynch also said `I feel very satisfied that we succeeded to be the first. I know of the special sensitive relations as well as of the ling history that connects the two peoples, and I want to assure you that OA will do everything possible to strengthen these even further.`
