Events Industry Council releases resources for Workforce and Wellness Accepted Practices Guide

Latest guidance and new EIC Career Centre to help events industry professionals navigate career pathways.

WASHINGTON, DC, USA – The Events Industry Council (EIC) released the Workforce and Wellness Accepted Practices Guide. It is the third accepted practices guide produced by EIC’s APEX COVID-19 Business Recovery Task Force.

The latest addition to the series of accepted practices guides includes:

  • Duty of Care standards
  • Resources for career reskilling and restarting
  • Frameworks for workforce, wellness and well-being
  • Events industry wellness programme case studies
  • COVID-19 resources
  • EIC also announced the launch of a Career Centre on its website.

“This new accepted practices guide and the online Career Centre provide a powerful combination of resources for our events industry professionals,” said Amy Calvert, Events Industry Council CEO. “In a year of ever-growing challenges, these resources will support the wellness of our workforce and equip us to upskill and reskill to support the global economic recovery. This is a testament to our industry and industry organisations’ desire for and commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and how we work together to prioritise the wellbeing of our workforce and their career journeys.”

The resources for the EIC online Career Centre are organised by:

  • Career Opportunities: A job posting board
  • Career Pathways: Tools and resources for career and financial support
  • Certification: Links to certification programs across the industry
  • Education: Webinars, courses, and online events
  • Research: Research and data for the global meetings and events industry
  • Scholarships: Financial support for meeting professionals

“In every sector of the industry, our peers are experiencing enormous stress due to COVID-19,” said Workforce and Wellness working group Co-chair Rachael Riggs, WellBeing Leader at Maritz Global Events (currently on furlough). “The challenges affect all dimensions of our lives – physical, social, financial, career, and environmental.”

“This guide’s curated resources support the global workforce in all phases and aspects of wellness and employment,” added Workforce and Wellness working group Co-chair Johnnie White, CEO/Executive Vice President, American Society of Appraisers. “It provides tools and resources to help with reskilling and restarting to assist our industry’s professionals navigate their career pathways and the skillsets needed as we move beyond COVID-19.”

Previous releases of EIC accepted practices guides and supporting materials include the Meeting and Event Design Accepted Practices Guide, a Code of Conduct, Health and Safety for Hotels Accepted Practices Guide, EIC Principles for Recovery, and Key Questions for Event Organisers. Upcoming guides will cover transportation and destinations.

The APEX COVID-19 Business Recovery Task Force is led by Co-chairs Michael Dominguez, President and CEO, Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI), and Kristin Horstman, Senior Director, Strategic Events, Salesforce. With representation from across the many sectors and regions of the global events ecosystem, the APEX COVID-19 Business Recovery Task Force provides a voice in planning, preparing and participating in our recovery and our future. The task force is also amplifying the story of our economic and social impact as advocates for our industry.
