bmi regional announces contract flying agreement with Swedish regional operator Flyglinjen

Carrier signs ten month deal to operate service in Sweden between Kristianstad and Stockholm Arlanda on behalf of Flyglinjen.

bmi regional
announced a deal to provide an Embraer 145 aircraft – with pilots, cabin crew and support – to Swedish regional operator Flyglinjen.

Flyglinjen will introduce a three times daily, six days a week service between Kristianstad and Stockholm Arlanda using the bmi regional Embraer ERJ-145.

“bmi regional has an excellent track record in flying on behalf of other carriers through wet-lease operations,” bmi regional Chairman, Ian Woodley said. “Not only did bmi regional fly extensively on behalf of bmi mainline when the airline was part of the Lufthansa Group, but now, as a standalone independent operator, we are continuing to develop our wet-lease business. The success of this deal with Flyglinjen paves the way for similar airline relationships elsewhere, as our reputation for operational excellence and our great brand really sets us apart.”

The contract flying arrangement is for ten months, starting from 12 August 2013, using the Flyglinjen brand. The aircraft will fly under the bmi regional Airline Operating Certificate (AOC), and will be operated by bmi regional crews and maintained by bmi regional engineers. Flyglinjen will provide sales and ground services. The bmi regional operation will replace a turboprop service currently operated by Flyglinjen on the route.

“Flyglinjen is delighted that bmi regional will operate our route from Kristianstad to Arlanda. The change from a Fokker 50 to an Embraer ERJ-145 brings many advantages to our customers such as a reduced flight time as well as a more comfortable and quiet experience. In addition, the reduced flight time will significantly improve our flight schedule, which has been well received by the local business community. We look forward to working with bmi regional and are confident that our partnership will have a positive effect on customer satisfaction and passenger growth,” said Philip Lofgren, CEO of Flyglinjen.
