Private Greek airlines and the safety of their flights are being placed under scrutiny by the public prosecutors office which has launched an investigation.
The inquiry will look at various issues including:
Legal aspects concerning the composition of the companies and their operation.
If the planes meet all safety regulations as required by law.
If staff (pilots, mechanics etc) are properly trained.
The probe was called after a Greek Euro-MP submitted a question to the European Parliament committee for air transport regarding Macedonian Airways. The MP had referred to a number of inspections carried out by the civil aviation authority which reportedly uncovered problems.
