Milan Bergamo’s soaring six months

Attributing the strong growth in part to its expanding airline portfolio, the Italian airport can now boast 14 serving airlines in S17 having recently witness the arrival of new partners Arkia Israeli Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines and Ernest.

Delivering double-digit growth rates last month, with a 14% increase in passenger traffic, Milan Bergamo continues to hit new highs. Some 5.8 million passengers have passed through Italy’s third largest airport in the first six months of 2017 – close to 600,000 more visitors than this time last year, an 11% year-on-year growth.

Attributing the strong growth in part to its expanding airline portfolio, the Italian airport can now boast 14 serving airlines in S17 having recently witness the arrival of new partners Arkia Israeli Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines and Ernest. The ongoing development of its route network will mean that by the end of the summer Milan Bergamo will have added 14 new routes and resumed 11 seasonal links. With its two largest carriers, Ryanair and Wizz Air, both increasing their weekly flights by 9%, one of its next biggest airlines, Blue Air, will have expanded its weekly flights by a robust 33%.

The airport has recently welcomed two new routes, as Blu Express launched service to Preveza on 13 July, while Wizz Air began offering a link to Varna from 22 July. With both operations being served twice-weekly, the carriers have added previously unserved markets to the airport’s route network.

“We’re on course for another record-breaking year in 2017,” enthuses Emilio Bellingardi, General Director of SACBO. He added: “We’ve not only seen significant growth in passenger traffic and cargo, we’re also witnessing an upsurge in the use of business-orientated products, such as fast track and VIP lounges, a huge recognition of our continued work to ensure we offer our customers a wide variety of airlines, destinations and facilities.”

Delivering double-digit year-on-year growth so far in 2017, Milan Bergamo’s Giacomo Cattaneo, Aviation Sales Director (centre) welcomed the airport’s latest new operation last weekend. As Wizz Air launched its twice-weekly service to Varna, the carrier added another unserved market to the Italian airport’s route network.
